eTN is a proud media partner of the ongoing World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) Global Summit that is taking place in Bangkok, Thailand, from April 26-27 at the Centara Grand & Bangkok Convention Centre at CentralWorld. The event is being hosted by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the state enterprise under the Thai Ministry of Tourism and Sports.
This is the summit’s 17th year, and its theme is “Transforming our World.” This global private sector event is focusing on the power of travel and tourism to transform economies, places, and lives, in line with the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Being addressed are the challenges being faced by the sector and working to ensure it contributes positively to a sustainable future.
This event is being attended by heads of the 100 largest companies in the global travel and tourism industry and by numerous ministers of tourism. Also in attendance are Taleb Rifai, the current Secretary General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), who opened the event along with Gerald Lawless, Chairman of the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC).

The former British Prime Minister, David Cameron, is also attending the summit along with the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand and other celebrities.
eTN today met with a number of ministers of tourism and CEOs, including some of the candidates for the Secretary General position at UNWTO: Hon. Dr. Walter Mzembi, Minister of Tourism and the Hospitality Industry for the Republic of Zimbabwe; Ambassador Dho Young-shim, Chairperson of the UNWTO Sustainable Tourism for Eliminating Poverty (ST-EP) Foundation (Republic of Korea); and Alain St.Ange, former Minister for Tourism, Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine for Seychelles.

eTN also met with David Scowsill, President and CEO of WTTC, who announced he was stepping down from his post at the World Travel and Tourism Council this June.
The line-up of speakers and subjects covered today was as impressive as the gala dinner that was held at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, which included a lively performance by Thai entertainers.
